When it comes to floor scrubbing machines, there are many pad/ brush types to choose from, and figuring out which spin speed you need can spin your head!
Luckily, we’re here to break it all down for you.
Starting with the machines themselves, there are 3 main types of “spin” actions, rotary, oscillation & orbital:
Rotary machines spin in a circular motion at varying speeds. The type of floor you’re working on and what you’re trying to achieve on that floor will determine what spin speed you require.
Instead of spinning, oscillating machines oscillate (who woulda thought?). This means that the pad/ brush moves, as a whole (not spinning), in a circular motion, allowing for more agitation.
Orbital machines combine both oscillation and rotary. The pad/ brush does lots of mini rapid oscillations whilst rotating slightly slower, meaning it can really agitate the floor and draw dirt from it.
When floor cleaning, with rotaries in particular, it is imperative to know what spin speed is optimal for what you’re trying to achieve. The 4 common levels of spin speed are low, medium, high and ultra high:
Used for scrubbing and stripping floors (depending on pad/ brush type).
Used mainly for scrubbing floors and some low-level polishing.
Used for polishing floors and spray cleaning.
Used for burnishing floors to leave a mirror finish.
There are a number of different pads and brushes for all the different brands of machines. All of them have a different purpose and are designed for different jobs. Some of most popular ones are:
